Consideration of Out of Country Trained Applicants
Hearing Instrument Practitioner, coming from a country outside of Canada
a. Application must be accompanied by $375 fee
b. Must provide transcripts and photocopy of diploma; transcripts must identify coursework in hearing aid dispensing
c. Must indicate experience in fitting of hearing aids
d. Two letters of reference attesting to good character
e. The Applicant at his expense will be required to provide an International Assessment of Credentials. If the applicants’ educational credentials are deemed equivalent to an approved Hearing Aid Practitioner Program, the applicant may apply for Associate membership with the College of Hearing Aid Practitioners of Alberta. The cost of the Associate membership is $250.00 which may be credited from the application fee.
f. The applicant will be required to successfully pass the CHAPA Practical exam (cost $400.00).
g. Upon successful passing of the Practical Exam, the applicant may apply to have Associate membership moved to the general register as a Hearing Aid Practitioner. The fee for the annual practice permit is $550.00 and may be pro-rated if the application is made after Oct. 1 of the registration year.
h. Applicant to successfully pass the NBC-HIS exam within 2 years of registration as a regulated member of the College.
