Steps for registration to take the CHAPA Exams

(Please refer also to Join CHAPA > Entrance to Practice requirements > Alberta Graduates for information on how to become licensed as a Hearing Aid Practitioner in Alberta)

In order to become licensed in Alberta as a Hearing Aid Practitioner, applicants must:

  • Have met the requirements for graduation from Grant MacEwan University or another approved 2 - 3 year Hearing Aid Practitioner program of study
  • Be registered as a Student/Interim member.  Application forms for this membership category can be downloaded from this website under the "Join CHAPA" tab.

There are 2 exams to be successfully completed:

1.  The CHAPA Theoretical exam (offered 4 times per year)

  • Once registered as a Student/Interim member, an application form may be requested from the Registrar or may be downloaded from the Members Area of the site.

2.  The CHAPA Practical Exam (scheduled individually)

  • Once the CHAPA Theoretical exam has successfully been completed, the Practical exam can be scheduled. Application forms may be requested from the Registrar or downloaded from the members area.

Once the above conditions have been met and the exams completed, application can be made for full licensure as a Hearing Aid Practitioner.
